Session Description
As Canadians live longer, they face medical issues that can profoundly affect quality of life. These issues are naturally accompanied by limitations and contraindications to exercise. Older adults specialists have many ways to encourage their clients to exercise and participate in the activities of daily living within their scope of ability and without inflaming their medical problems. We'll look at common conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, hip and knee replacements (before and after), dementia, and fibromyalgia. We'll discuss programming for the older adult with one or more medical conditions and present strategies for fall prevention and balance training.
