Stop the Proposed Music Tariff! The Fitness Industry in Canada is facing a crisis! A proposed new music copyright tariff is threatening all Canadian fitness clubs and facilities.

What Can You Do? With a unified strategy, as well as money to support the efforts, we can save the fitness industry from its worst threat ever. It is critical, that ALL clubs of ALL sizes join forces on the issue, and for club owners and managers to have a unified voice. Together, we can stop this money grab that could potentially put many of us out of business.

Can-Fit-Pro supports all stakeholders in the fitness industry, including both commercial and non-commercial facilities, fitness professionals, and fitness consumers. When a development that may negatively impact the industry’s ability to deliver its services is proposed, be it a new tariff, tax, or other legislation, it is in the interest of the general public, as well as our members, for us to examine such a development.

With regards to the proposed NRCC tariffs, as well as the existing SOCAN tariffs, Can-Fit-Pro understands that musical artists and performers desire to protect their intellectual property, be fairly compensated for their work and how it is used. Can-Fit-Pro is currently supporting the Fitness Industry Council of Canada ( HYPERLINK "http://ficdn.ca" http://ficdn.ca) in their study to better understand where the NRCC tariff came from, what calculation is being used, and how this will affect the fitness industry. The results of this study will allow those targeted by the tariff to both understand it and prepare for the impact it would create for facility operators, employees, and the consumers who may be most affected by it. If the tariff is found to be fairly structured, we would expect all stakeholders to comply with it. If, however, the tariff is found to be unfairly structured, we would support the examination of a more fairly structured tariff as well as alternative approaches for music delivery. Regardless of the outcome, Can-Fit-Pro will keep the health and well being of Canadians at the forefront of our mandate through its mission to serve our members.
