Nutrition & Wellness Specialist (NWS) PDF Print E-mail

NWS

A program for participants who want more in depth nutritional information, weight management concepts, stress management solutions and lifestyle consulting for both active and underactive people.

Personal health is constantly changing. It is much easier to keep your current state of health than it is to try to recover your health after an illness. To have a positive influence on your state of wellness over time, it is important to understand healthy eating, the value of regular activity and ways to reduce stress. Maintaining wellness requires the consistent use of practical strategies with an overall focus on the body, mind and spirit. This course will provide excellent tools for fitness professionals to help them counsel others about how to build a healthy body. This program is also very beneficial to all Canadians who want to learn practical ways to become more active, eat better and make a personal lifestyle change.

The Nutrition & Wellness Specialist Course

A comprehensive 22-hour course that will increase your knowledge of nutrition and wellness.

Topics include

  • The wellness concept, health evaluation and lifestyle choices
  • Nutrition basics (macro and micronutrients)
  • Weight management (weight loss and gain)
  • Counselling and behaviour modification
  • Sports nutrition and supplements
  • Nutrition resources and referrals
  • Complimentary therapies and therapists
  • Spiritual health and stress management

The Nutrition & Wellness Course Manual

canfitpro has developed an excellent manual to be used for the Nutrition & Wellness course and certification exam. The writing team consists of a Registered Dietician, a Wholistic Practitioner and a Certified Fitness Instructor / Personal Trainer with a Master's Degree. This combination of intellect and practical experience delivers useful material that is well rounded, comprehensive, yet easy to understand and apply.

The Nutrition & Wellness Exam

We recommend that candidates attempt the exam approximately four (4) to six (6) weeks after taking the course. This time frame is recommended in order to allow candidates to properly prepare for the exam. Those who choose the option to progress and become a certified Nutrition & Wellness Specialist will complete a theory and practical exam. These two components assess the candidate's knowledge, counselling skills and ability to develop useful lifestyle tools. This certification provides new skills for fitness professionals and gives them an enhanced ability to work with others in the promotion of improved health, physical activity and wellness.
