What types of Memberships are offered by Can-Fit-Pro?
CFP: There are two types of memberships.  Professional Memberships & Business Memberships. 

What is the difference between a Professional Membership and Business Membership? 
CFP: The Professional Membership is most suitable for individuals interested in becoming Fitness Professionals and taking Can-Fit-Pro courses and exams, as well as Fitness enthusiasts who would like to be apart of a Fitness Organization.  The Business Membership is most beneficial to Club owners and operators, as it is a membership which benefits the entire club.

How much is a Can-Fit-Pro Membership?
CFP: The cost of a new Can-Fit-Pro Membership is $69.00 plus tax (GST or HST).

How much is the Can-Fit-Pro Business Membership?

How does membership affect my certification?
CFP: To become certified or retain your certification you need to become/renew your membership with Can-Fit-Pro on an annual basis.  Without a current membership your certification is not valid.

How much is a Can-Fit-Pro Membership Renewal?
CFP: The cost of your membership renewal is $49.00 plus tax (GST or HST). Your membership expires annually.  You can find your expiry date on your Membership card.

Expired Membership

If I pay my membership renewal late, does my expiry date change to the date that I paid? 
CFP: If you are a certified member your expiry date will not change.  You will need to back pay your membership fees in order for your certification to be valid.  If you are a non-certified member, your expiry date will change to the end of the current month of payment plus one year.

I just became a Can-Fit-Pro Personal Trainer/Fitness Instructor and I’m looking for a company to receive Insurance from.  Do you have a company you could suggest?

I forgot to change my address and haven’t been receiving magazines.  Can I receive them now? 
CFP: If your address is correct in the database at the time of mailing and you are not receiving your magazines we will send you a PDF version of the Can-Fit-Pro Magazine on CD (limit of 6 issues). 

How do I post a job on your website?
CFP: As a Can-Fit-Pro Member you have the opportunity to post jobs on our website.  Please send an email to info@canfitpro.com which includes your name, membership #, city and province the position is located, and a brief description of the position (do not exceed 100 words, or the job posting will not be accepted).  Please do not send any attachments.  For a list of guidelines to follow before submitting your posting please click here

How can I post a job with my logo on your website?
CFP: Can-Fit-Pro Business Rewards Members have the opportunity to post jobs on the Can-Fit-Pro website with their logo.  Please submit your logo in the body of your email to info@canfitpro.com.  The format of the file can be a maximum size of 175 pixels wide and 75 pixels tall in a 72 dpi, RGB format, JPG or GIF format. 

I need my membership number to register for a course/exam/conference.  Where can I find it?
CFP: Your membership number is located on your membership card, titled Can-Fit-Pro ID#. If you have misplaced your Membership card simply call the office at 416-493-3515 or 1-800-667-5622 and we will be more than happy to provide you with your membership number. 

What is included in the online newsletters?
CFP: The online newsletters provide you with up-to-date information about the fitness industry and our organization.

Membership Payments

Can I pay for membership for the next 2 years?       
CFP: Yes, please indicate this when sending in your payment. Please note, certified members must also send us proof of 4 CECs per discipline and an updated CPR each year, even if your membership is pre-paid for two years.

What are the acceptable forms of payment?
CFP: Mastercard, Visa, Personal Cheque, Money Order, Debit Card (at counter), Cash (at counter).

How can I check my payment status?
CFP: Call us at 416-493-3515 or 1-800-667-5622, or email us at info@canfitpro.com  

Can I send a post dated cheque if my membership hasn’t expired?
CFP: Yes, post dated cheques are accepted.  All post dated cheques should be dated two weeks prior to your expiry date. 

What are my options to pay my membership?
CFP:  There are several ways to pay your membership:

What do I need to be aware of when sending a cheque?
CFP: If you are sending in a cheque please attach your cheque to the registration form you are sending in.  Please remember to calculate the applicable taxes (GST/HST) and include it in your payment.  Please make cheques payable to Can-Fit-Pro. 
      
What do I do when I get a call saying my cheque is NSF(Non-sufficient-fund cheque)?
CFP: Please call the Can-Fit-Pro office at 1-800-667-5622 to pay by visa or mastercard, or you can send a certified cheque or money order.  Please do not send another personal cheque.  Also include a $25 administration fee plus GST ($26.50) to the total of your balance. 

If I am paying using my credit card, how long does it take to charge it on my bank balance?
CFP: If you are paying over the phone, your credit card will be charged immediately over the phone.
If you are sending the credit card information through the mail with your application form, it takes up to two business weeks until your payment will be processed.

What if I overpaid for what I should be paying?
CFP: 

    1. You can request a cheque refund through email/phone, which may take up to three weeks until you can get the payment.
    2. You can request a credit card refund over email/phone, which only takes about one week to be processed.
    3. If the amount is small (less than $50 dollars), Can-Fit-Pro staff will put the overpayment as a credit on your file which you can use towards your next payment.

Certification program inquiries

If I take the course, am I required to proceed to the exam?
CFP:  No, we frequently have club members and other fitness enthusiasts take the course for general interest.

Can I take the FIS, PTS and NWS courses at the same time?
CFP:  No, because these are three completely different courses. The delivery of the course and some of the basic theory will be similar, but the practical applications are very different

When do I receive exam results?
CFP:  Exam results are available by contacting your PRO Trainer approximately 1 week after both the theory and practical components have been completed. If you pass both components, you can expect your certificate and information package in the mail from the Certification Department within 6 - 8 weeks.

How much will it cost to take a course, exam and buy the manuals? Are all of these items mandatory, or do you have an option for which ones to purchase?
CFP: Choose the options you need to pass the exam!

How accessible is the exam? Do you have to pay to travel out of your local area to take the exam?
CFP: You can usually take the exam at the same location the course was offered in urban and rural settings all across Canada!

Can you work with a local contact person, or do you deal with a faceless bureaucracy?
CFP: Your PRO Trainer is your local contact, and the staff at Can-Fit-Pro offices are always available to help!

Where is your certification recognized? Locally, provincially, nationally, internationally?
CFP: Your certification is recognized nationally and internationally. You will not need to pay "transfer fees" if you move between provinces.

Does the organization make it easy to prepare for the course in your local area?
CFP: Your PRO Trainer is your local contact who offers you a course and exam in your own backyard!

Does the organization make it easy to find and register for courses and exams from start to finish, or do they send you out on your own to prepare for the exam?
CFP: One phone call to us gets you registered for the course, exam and materials. We don't need to send you to other course providers or organizations because we provide total service to you from start to finish.

How current are the training materials? When was the training manual written or last revised?
CFP: At Can-Fit-Pro we know that fitness professionals need up to date information on exercise science and design.  We have a mandate of updating our certification resources every two years to ensure that you receive the most relevant information possible with regards to your certification process.

What about Canadian content?
CFP: Can-Fit-Pro was started in Canada, for Canadians by Canadians. We bring you the best local, provincial and national coverage, as well as the international information that really counts!

Certification program registration

Do I have to take a course before taking the certification exam?
CFP:  No, the course, manual and study guide are educational tools to assist you in completing the examination procedure successfully. If you feel your current level of education and skill is sufficient, then you can proceed directly to the exam. There is a practical as well as a theoretical (written) portion to the FIS, PTS and NWS exams. If you are not taking the course, we recommend you purchase both the Certification Manual and the Study Guide so you know what to expect on the exam.

How do I get forms to sign up for courses or exams?

Recertification

What about recertification? How much will it cost each time to recertify? How many credits will you need to earn? Will courses, conferences or workshops be available to you on a regular basis to earn the credits?
CFP: Once you are certified with us, you pay no further certification fees. Just keep your membership up-to-date! Earn CECs at our annual conference or at a local CFP approved workshop.  You must obtain a minimum of 4 CEC's per year per certification that you hold.

Continuing education credits

How do I get CECs?
CFP: Can-Fit-Pro Conferences, Online Education and Workshops:
CECs may be obtained in a number of different methods. Attendance at Can-Fit-Pro fitness conferences or workshops are the most common method of achieving the required CECs. Our conference sessions and workshops may be accredited for more than one type of certification designation. For example, if you are FIS and PTS certified, and you attend a session or workshop that offers FIS and PTS credits, you would earn one CEC for both of your certifications (one FIS and one PTS towards recertification in one workshop). Attendance at one Can-Fit-Pro conference may give you enough CECs to keep one certification current for up to two renewal periods (8.0 CECs). If you hold more than one certification designation, it may be in your best interest to look for these types of session / workshops to streamline your recertification.

Calendar of events

What is it?
CFP:The events posted here are approved for Can-Fit-Pro Continuing Education Credits (CECs). Upon successful completion of an event approved for Can-Fit-Pro CECs you will receive a Can-Fit-Pro Certificate of Completion that you may use as proof, of CECs, to maintain your certification with Can-Fit-Pro.

CPR

Who can take the Can-Fit-Pro CPR Courses?
CFP: Anyone can take the Can-Fit-Pro CPR Courses.  Fitness professionals, fitness enthusiasts and consumers are all welcome to the take CPR courses. 

To become a Can-Fit-Pro certified fitness professional, what kind of CPR do I need?
CFP:  Basic Adult CPR certification is required to become certified. First aid is recommended although not required. CPR is valid up to one year from the date it was originally issued. CPR recertification must be completed annually to renew your certification(s).

Consumer Fitness Education (Consumer Fitness Education)

Who are the Consumer Fitness Education workshops for?
CFP: These workshops are designed for those in the general public who are interested in learning more about fitness and health. 

Where can I find out what workshops are offered?

If I am PTS or FIS certified do I get CECs for these workshops?
CFP:No.  These workshops do not earn you CECs because the information presented in them is for the general public.

 Conference payments

How much does the conference cost?
CFP: Each conference’s registration fee is listed in the details section for that conference.  As one of the benefits of being a member with Can-Fit-Pro, you will enjoy lower registration fees for the conferences.

How much are the pre-conference workshops and am I a delegate?
CFP: A delegate is anyone who is attending the conference.  Delegates will pay a lower rate than those who will not be attending the conference and wish to only attend the pre-conference workshop.  The prices are listed in the pre-conference details page for each conference.

Conference registration

How do I register for the conference?
CFP: Registration can be done in any one of the following ways:
On-line (conference dependant) - simply follow the link “register here”- pay and choose your sessions all in one easy step. 
Fax your complete registration form with credit card information to Can-Fit-Pro at 416-493-1756. 
Mail your completed registration form along with payment (no CODs) to 110-255 Consumers Road, Toronto, ON M2J 1R4.
By phone- pay for your registration by phone then send in your session requests within 7 business days.  Registering by phone will guarantee you today’s rates, and reserves you a space in the conference not in sessions.  Please send in session requests as soon as possible for the best session selection.

How and when do I get a receipt?
CFP: If you registered on-line, confirmation of the sessions you have requested will be emailed to you within 48 hours.  All delegates will receive a confirmation letter by email or mail indicating which sessions have been allocated to them.  You will receive an official receipt of payment on-site in your delegate kit. 

Do I have to be certified to attend a conference?
CFP: No, we welcome all fitness enthusiasts to the conference.  There are a huge variety of sessions to choose from at each conference.

Do I have to be a Can-Fit-Pro member to attend a conference?
CFP: We welcome all participants.  Can-Fit-Pro members enjoy the low member rate.  If you are not a member, Can-Fit-Pro offers a special non-member rate which includes a one-year membership.

What is the certification request option on the registration form and does it apply to me?
CFP: The certification request is an option available for those who already hold certifications with another organization. You can choose to add the $99 fee to your conference registration. You can apply to have your certification recognized and transferred to a Can-Fit-Pro certification. Please contact the certification department for more details and to inquire if this applies to you.

Conference sessions

What do I do if I didn’t get into my first choice of session requests?
CFP: Sessions are assigned on a first come first served basis, based on the date your complete registration is received (payment and session requests).  Payment for the conference reserves you a space in the conference, but not in specific sessions.  We will do our best to assign you to one of your top requests.  If a session is full, or if you did not get into your first choice session, you are welcome to attend any session on a stand-by basis.  Please see the “stand-by” section in the brochure or on-line for more information.

What do I do if I would like to change a session after I have already registered?
CFP:  Sorry, we do not accept session changes.  You are welcome to attend sessions onsite on a stand-by basis

Cancellations

What do I do if I registered and now I am unable to attend the conference for unforeseen reasons?
CFP:  We have a cancellation policy in effect.  All cancellations must be received in writing to Can-Fit-Pro by the specified cancellation cut-off date.  Your fee will be refunded less a $35 administrative fee (plus applicable taxes).

Obtaining CECs from sessions

Will I receive continuing education credits (CECs) for attending the conference?
CFP: Yes, you will receive CECs for attending the conference.  All Can-Fit-Pro CECs are listed in the session descriptions, as well as on-line.  CECs for other organizations will be listed on-line approximately 1 month before the conference date.  For CECs from organizations not listed, please contact your certification agency to inquire about petitioning for credit recognition.

Trade Show

How do I find out more about exhibiting in your trade shows?
CFP: You can either go to the Toronto conference webpage, call 1-800-667-5622 or e-mail tradeshow@canfitpro.com.

What is included when ordering a booth?
CFP: Your booth will have the required pipe and draping.  All other decorating, electrical and web requirements are at the exhibitors cost.

How do I get information about delivery and shipping?
CFP: All confirmed exhibitors receive the prior to the event to plan all shipping details.

How many people visit the Toronto tradeshow?
CFP: 2007 saw over 6500 people visit the trade show.

What are the demographics of the attendees at the tradeshow?
CFP: The attendees are 80% women and are made up of personal trainers, group trainers, owners, program directors and allied professionals.

Can I access an attendee list after the tradeshow for marketing purposes?
CFP: No, Can-Fit-Pro does not sell or distribute the attendee list.

Do you have pictures of what the booth looks like?
CFP: We do not have pictures of all booth configurations.  Each trade show is defined by the unique venue for booth sizing.  Our standard set-up is a pipe and drape with 8 foot high back and 3 foot high divider.    

Is there a discount for buying multiple booths?
CFP: There is no discount provided for buying more than one booth.
