1001 Program Design: Choosing Reps, Sets, Loads, Tempo and Rest Periods (L)
Mark Stone
Exercise is like a drug; given in the right quantities at the right time, it can help a person. In the wrong quantities at the wrong time it can hurt the same person. A key skill for any fitness professional is being able to design individualized exercise programs that will lead to optimal performance for all types of clients; this session is designed to teach you to do just that! You will learn how to combine and manipulate acute exercise variables; not just reps and sets, but also loads, tempo and rest periods. Periodization concepts are covered and case histories are used as illustrations, bringing real-life examples to help you understand these critical factors. Move far beyond the “one-program-fits-all” approach and leave with an in-depth understanding of how to use the science of selecting acute exercise variables to create effective programs for all your clients. This session is ideal for intermediate to advanced personal trainers. Sponsored by CHEK INSTITUTE.

1006 STOTT PILATES® Pre- and Post-Natal Matwork with Toning Balls (W/S)
Jodi Solie
This interactive seminar will draw upon the most current medical information, exercise guidelines and research available on pre- and post-natal exercise. Appropriate STOTT PILATES® Matwork exercise adaptations will be explored and programming concepts for teaching to private clients and small groups will be discussed. Anatomical and physiological changes, risk factors and movement considerations will be discussed along with safe and effective workout routines appropriate for all stages of pregnancy. We will also provide innovative strategies for building new programs as well as enhancing those already in progress. Most women are able to return to their regular exercise routine four to six weeks after giving birth or when it is recommended by their physician. Many of the same exercises that they have been performed during their second and third trimester of pregnancy may still be suitable, but other exercises can be added to focus on reactivating and stabilizing the pelvic floor, transverses abdominis and obliques as well as developing lumbo-pelvic stability. This gentle but effective workout will incorporate two-pound Toning Balls to get new moms back on track. Sponsored by STOTT PILATES.
