Let’s get physical & functional. In this workshop we will examine the movement patterns we use every day and address the muscles & joints needed to do these safely & effectively. Exercises, using multiple planes of motion, stabilization, balance & coordination will be explored. We’ll train the body to do everyday activities more easily with less chance of injury, such as driving safely, opening a door, getting down to & up off the floor, reaching for items on a shelf, carrying your gym bag, using the stairs, etc. Improve one’s strength, flexibility, posture, balance, coordination, mobility.

Falls Prevention & Balance Training (749)

Falls can happen to anyone, but for those over the age of 65, falls are a leading cause of injury.  Mobility, stability, strength and functional movement are essential to performing the activities of daily living.  We will investigate both intrinsic and extrinsic factors that may contribute to falls and suggest strategies to reduce these risks.  Different commonly used ideas, games and equipment will be examined, modified and incorporated to enhance training and exercise modules to work with varying clients and group classes.  Balance and falls prevention is for everyone!

The Big O’s: Osteoarthritis & Osteoporosis (750)

Common Medical Conditions & Exercise Prescription for the Older Adult (752)

As Canadians live longer, they face medical issues that can profoundly affect their quality of life. These conditions are naturally accompanied by limitations and contraindications to exercise. Older adult specialists have many ways to encourage their clients to exercise and participate in the activities of daily living within their scope of ability and without inflaming their medical problems. In this full day workshop learn more about the common conditions, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, knee and hip replacements (before and after), spinal conditions, shoulder and elbow pain. We will discuss exercises, modifications and programming for the older adult living with one or more of these medical conditions.

CANCELLATION

All Academy cancellations must be received in writing toconferences@canfitpro.com. Cancellations received more than 60 days prior to the published start date of the event will not incur a cancellation penalty. Cancellations received between 60 and five (5) days prior to the published start date of the event will be charged an administration fee of 15% of the total conference registration fee (plus applicable taxes). No refunds will be issued for cancellations received less than five days prior to the published start date of the event. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows, partially used registrations, on-site registrations or membership fees.

HANDOUTS

Academy session handouts will be available online one (1) week prior and 30 days after the conference. Handouts will be listed by session number and name, and will be subject to availability (as submitted by presenter). Please remember to print your session handouts and bring them on-site or view them on your tablet or smart phone.

EQUIPMENT

Without the equipment provided by our sponsors, the variety of sessions available to you would be limited. Please help us ensure the integrity of our conference and our relationship with our sponsors by respecting their property. Theft costs everyone. If you are found taking equipment that does not belong to you, you will be removed from the Academy and your canfitpro membership and certification(s) will be revoked.

CHILDREN AND BABIES

For the safety and consideration of all concerned, particularly your child’s, children and babies are not allowed into the Academy events at any time. This includes babies in strollers. This is also necessary to maintain the educational atmosphere of the sessions.

PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO, AND AUDIO TAPING

Photography, video, and audio taping are not permitted in any session. Delegates found violating this rule will be expelled from the session without refund.

FRAGRANCE-FREE

While we recognize that deodorant is necessary (especially after an intense workout!), please limit the use of scented products.
