Overview:

This position will provide excellent service experience and guidance to canfitpro’s members and contact network through inbound and outbound sales and education fluently in both French & English. The successful candidate will sell, educate and service inbound and outbound contacts by phone, email, fax and data processing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Mirror My Video is set to “on” – usually default. That way when you mirror image teach (left lead) your participants will be on their right
  • You will notice lag/delay from the timing of your movements to when your participants are moving. Practice to get used to this delay so you’re not thrown off
  • Add class participants as contacts in Zoom so you can easily email directly from Zoom in case of tech issues (saves time and hassle)
  • You can record classes and share the replay video with participants to access in Zoom. You can even set an expiry date for the recording

In Canada, the public health risk associated with COVID-19 is low; however, it is imperative that as health and fitness leaders, we work towards protecting Canadian Fitness Professionals. It’s important as fitness professionals that we lead by example through maintaining our exercise regimes and healthy nutrition practices. We know this helps to support the immune system. Together, let’s encourage people to continue to work out and to pursue personal and professional fitness endeavors, while ensuring they are provided with correct information on how to protect themselves.

Because canfitpro’s number one priority is the safety and security of every canfitpro Member, Delegate, Participant, Associate, and Volunteer, we are working with all our partners to closely monitor the unfolding situation with COVID-19 and are following all available public health guidance to assure healthy and safety. To address questions that you may have or be asked about, we have prepared this “Frequently Asked Questions” with responses to provide all our Members with the most accurate information possible. When, and as circumstances change, additional guidance and direction will be offered via postings on our websites, social media outlets and other public releases.

Due to the developments surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s with a heavy heart that canfitpro has made the necessary and difficult decision to postpone canfitpro 2020 until August 13-15, 2021.  We naturally did not plan for this when we created, printed and distributed 20,000 brochures to all our members and took the usual steps to launch our live event earlier this year.  

At canfitpro, the health, safety, and well-being for our Associates, Members, Presenters, Sponsors, and Exhibitors is our highest priority. Mindful of our duty of care, we want to act on what is in the best interest of our community.

Although these times hold uncertainty, one thing does remain true - there’s a power in people connecting! This is why we’re excited to bring the magic of in-person conferences online for canfitpro 2020 Virtual Series. From your own home, canfitpro 2020 Virtual Series attendees can participate from wherever you are in the world, livestreaming education from fitness experts, leaders, pioneers and innovators from around the globe. For new certification courses, you can re-book your course with us later in the year, free of charge. canfitpro will be immediately granting 60 day extensions to certification renewals that are due March through August.  Please note that courses, theory and practical exams can be re-booked later in the year free of charge or taken online with a PRO TRAINER.  (Note: CPR courses can only be taken in -person.)

Immediate extensions have been granted to complete certification courses and CPR courses can be re-booked, free of charge.  Your certification will not be affected if your CPR is delayed.

As the virus continues to spread in communities across Canada, especially over the past 48 hours, we are seeing the need for further and more aggressive action to try and reduce the transmission of this virus.  

GoodLife Fitness and Fit4Less Clubs across Canada have made the difficult but important and necessary decision to close all their clubs across Canada, effective today, March 16, 2020.

As the leading global provider of fitness and wellness education, canfitpro empowers people to lead passionate and fulfilling lives through safe, fun and effective physical activity.  There is no moment in our history where that purpose is more important than today.  We encourage all clubs, studios and facilities within the country to follow the lead set by GoodLife and Fit4Less. It is an unfortunate but necessary thing to do.  canfitpro will continue to closely monitor the situation as it relates to our regional events and will provide updates relating to those events as they become available.  

For 27 years canfitpro has been a leading authority in the fitness industry and we would anticipate and hope the industry follow responsibly, the lead of GoodLife in closing fitness clubs, studios and facilities. 

We fully appreciate the financial difficulty that this poses to the industry however these same difficulties are imposed on the employees and all efforts should be made wherever possible to minimize the detrimental financial effects felt by those that are least able to deal with them.  We know that GoodLife has made the decision to continue to pay Associates for a period of time and while we cannot say what’s viable for your individual club(s), we hope that you take the well-being of your staff into consideration. 

We appreciate that this places a burden on all of our businesses as we deal with the situation with which we are presented. There’s no better time to work together as a community to create a positive and safe environment for you, your family, and your members’ and clients’ families.

canfitpro is following the recommendation of every major public health agency, including the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), to encourage all canfitpro Members, Delegates, Participants, Associates, PRO-TRAINERS, and Volunteers to regularly wash their hands using water and soap which is available at all of our events, workshops, classes, and in-person courses. This is the most effective way to reduce the spread of all communicable illnesses including COVID-19.

We are reminding canfitpro Members, Delegates, Participants, Associates, PRO-TRAINERS, and Volunteers to stay healthy and prevent the spread of infections by doing the following:

  • wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds as per the PHAC’s recommended method of proper hand hygiene
  • avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
  • avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • coughing or sneezing into their sleeve or tissues and not hands
  • staying home if sick to avoid spreading illness to others
  • maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing

Public Health Agencies have procedures in place to trace potential contact should an individual be diagnosed with COVID-19. If canfitpro is informed by these Agencies that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19, canfitpro will immediately and closely follow the direction given by the Agencies. This could include temporarily rescheduling courses or workshops.

canfitpro is following the recommendation of every major public health agency, including the Public Health Agency of Canada, to encourage canfitpro Members, Delegates, Participants, Associates, PRO-TRAINERS and Volunteers to regularly wash their hands using water and soap which is available at all of our venues. This is the most effective way to reduce the spread of all communicable illnesses including COVID-19. We are increasing education and awareness through signage, digital and verbal communications to further promote the PHAC’s hand hygiene guidelines.

During Events and In-Person Courses, we are advising limited physical contact:

  • When checking-in, your belongings will not be handled (e.g. key tags, lanyards, etc.)
  • Verbal direction and encouragement will be provided instead of physical contact during courses and workshops
  • At least 1 metre (3 feet) distance from anyone who is coughing, or sneezing will be maintained
  • Shaking hands will be avoided

canfitpro is closely monitoring information and recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Canada. We are sending out ongoing communication to keep our sanitization procedures as thorough as possible and to provide best practices in hand washing and respiratory hygiene. Should new information be shared by public health experts, we will re-evaluate and update our procedures, if needed.

canfitpro is following the travel guidelines of the Public Health Agency of Canada which can be located here. If any questions about your health while travelling or upon returning from a trip please immediately contact your health care professional (e.g. your doctor or local Public Health Authority) to seek advice. If you become sick while travelling, call ahead to a health professional to explain your symptoms. If you become sick upon your return, call your local Public Health Authority. They will provide advice on what you should do.

As usual, those with flu-like symptoms, who have not travelled internationally to an affected region, should stay at home. 

Those who have travelled to an affected region, or have had close contact with a person ill with COVID-19, should limit their contact with others for a total of 14 days from the date that they left the affected region or were in contact with a person ill with COVID-19. This means self-isolate and staying at home. In addition, they should contact their local public health authority within 24 hours of arriving in Canada. Travellers returning from other affected areas should monitor for symptoms. Those who develop symptoms (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) or any other symptoms within 14 days after returning to Canada, are advised to contact your health-care provider, or local health authority. Inform them about your symptoms and travel history. If you are not already isolated, self-quarantine yourself in your home.

Travellers returning from other affected areas should monitor for symptoms. Those who develop symptoms (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) or any other symptoms within 14 days after returning to Canada, are advised to contact Telehealth Ontario (1-866-797-0000), your health-care provider, or local health authority. Inform them about your symptoms and travel history. If you are not already isolated, self-quarantine yourself in your home.

There are no plans to screen individual delegates. Every delegate is encouraged to be diligent and proactive as to their own physical wellness as well as follow healthy habits to prevent passing the cold/flu to others.

The safety and security of every canfitpro attendee, delegate, exhibitor, and associate and volunteer is priority number one for canfitpro, and all partners. We work to assure that priority is fulfilled and canfitpro will always make decisions that ensure the safety, security and success of everyone involved.

Yes, canfitpro will issue a full refund in the amount paid should any event be cancelled by canfitpro. As long as canfitpro is moving forward with the Conference, those who choose to not attend will not receive a refund. A doctor’s note will be required if you want to get a refund if you are sick and unable to attend a canfitpro Event and/or Conference.

We all know it’s a challenging time in the fitness industry. 

Studio and gym owners are getting a lot thrown at them at once. Clients ghosting or putting themselves on hold, the economy’s partially shut down, cash flow’s getting tight (and tighter), and everyone has to keep going despite the uncertainty. 

And your clients and members don’t know what to do either. They’re losing strength, gaining weight, and backsliding with the progress they’ve made. And they’re feeling lost, confused, overwhelmed, and losing hope.

In the past 6 weeks we’ve worked with more than 4,000+ gym and studio owners across the globe to solve these problems and more. Here’s the 3-step plan you can follow to start turning things around.

1. Get your head right to capitalize on the tremendous growth opportunities in front of you!

Right now, most studio and gym owners are overwhelmed with the messages coming at them. 

The endless news cycle is distracting; government leaders are daily coming out with policies you have no control over. The fitness industry got shut down. And studio owners see a whole lot of trainers giving away free workouts available on YouTube and Instagram.

And then there’s just the uncertainty coming from the crisis itself.

Virtual group classes don’t get full, and group, personal training and semi-private clients can stay with you no matter where they go … if they’re on holiday or move away, they’re still your clients. And you can add Zoom accounts and coaches faster and cheaper than you find, build out, and add new facility space. 

For example, Kate Laird, owner of Love Your Body Fitness in Ottawa, immediately adapted her in-person programs for Moms to online–and is now thriving. She took the approach of “we have to keep doing this and this is how we do it now.” She didn’t give her clients the option of going “on hold” or waiting things out. She had her services up and running the same day her gym was down. Now she’s up to 45 new members, has a corporate contract, and revenue is up 31%. Key: Get a strategic mindset about coaching your clients, and don’t get overwhelmed about things you cannot control.  

2. Learn the systems and tools needed to run and manage a virtual location 

You can’t take the OFFLINE customer journey, put it on Zoom, and expect for things to work. 

Too many coaches (incorrectly) try that – it doesn’t work – and think they can’t deliver value online. They develop ‘head trash” around competing with free workouts on Instagram and YouTube.

But they forget what COACHING vs. WATCHING videos is all about.

You watch a video, try it, and … what? 

You still need a trainer to personally teach technique to avoid injuries and write programming personalized to your goals.

But even that’s not good enough. 

People need coaches. Coaches lead clients to outcomes. And coaches consider all the methods and tools available to lead clients to their goals including assessment, programming, teaching technique, accountability and support, nutrition and recovery, and community.

So your virtual business model needs to be online coaching. That means understanding your client needs (their health and fitness goals, such as getting out of pain, losing weight, improving energy levels) and removing barriers to their receiving value online. 

It’s your job to design the right way to support and best lead clients to their goals (outcomes)–depending on your model (group, semi-private, private training) and client avatar (clients that need lots of hand holding vs. clients that just want programming, etc).

Don’t wait for things to be perfect. Roll out the first version of your online program fast then work to keep improving it every day.  

You can find the opportunities to improve by simply ending every workout with 3 questions: 

  1. How was the intensity of the workout for you today? 
  2. How can we continue to improve the remote coaching experience for you? 
  3. Would you please take 2 min and send me a brief message saying what you most enjoyed about the remote session and why you’d recommend others engage this as well?

Then use the feedback to improve value to clients. Don’t stop until you are consistently delivering WOW! Only then are you ready to sell. 

3. Learn how to find and sign new clients (even during COVID-19)

We are in a new world. The strategies, offers, messaging you used to successfully market your business will NOT work in this climate.

If you want to grow, you’ve got to level up in your sales and marketing strategy and skill sets.

Most people are only PROBLEM or SOLUTION aware. That is, they don’t understand the PRODUCT or service you are selling, only the problem they have or the solution you are offering. 

Meaning they know they are gaining weight and getting weak, they know they need to move more and eat better, but they don’t understand what online training is, how it works, or how it will help them solve their problems and achieve their goals.

Therefore, right now, your best strategy and offers are to offer them a FREE trial/session. Let them experience how it works and see the benefits. Then transition to selling your regular program OR a downsell a short term program such as a 4-8 week challenge. 

Normally, we never counsel short-term programs. But some people are not thinking more than a month or two out given the current climate. Use this time to perfect the value you create for clients. 

Then keep it simple. Go for easy wins for marketing. Run engagement campaigns to most recently engaged clients. Use reactivation campaigns for inactive clients. 

Create a Referral/Bring-a-Friend campaigns with current clients who are LOVING your new programs. 

And get ready for organic growth–you’re going to get more new business by word of mouth, just by the fact there is demand and everyone else is closed.

There has NEVER been a better time to grow a fitness coaching business online. Get excited (and get to work!) to capitalize on the tremendous opportunities in front of you right now.

Deliver great VALUE to clients (online or offline). It’s all about understanding client needs and removing barriers to receiving value. Learn the systems and tools needed to run and manage a virtual location and you can deliver that value. 

And most importantly, when you want to grow, commit to strategy not promotion. Learn how to better inspire and lead commitment to goals. Be clear about WHO you’re looking for and communicate HOW you can help them solve their problems and achieve their goals.

What is a Certification Development Administrator

As canfitpro’s Manager of Events & Event Experience, your primary role is to develop and lead the events team in the successful execution of canfitpro’s regional conferences and events, as well as our annual flagship convention in Toronto. What will you be doing?

  • Develop, maintain & update operational budgets throughout the year, and meet annual budgetary goals for each canfitpro event
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of event logistics timelines and critical paths. Use established timelines & critical paths to strategically delegate tasks to the Event Experience team and help balance workloads
  • Hire, train and develop event planners for the team. Be a mentor, providing education, guidance and support for event planners as they learn and grow within the event planning process
  • Manage key suppliers & venue relationships, including sourcing, contracting, and negotiating all suppliers. Develop strong supplier management within the team
  • Work with key partners on the building educational curriculums for each event. Canfitpro events have a core focus of education for the fitness industry. Work in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts to provide premium through leadership
  • Collaborate with the B2B Sales Experience team to define and fulfill all sponsor & exhibitor requirements and ensure their experience at canfitpro events is positive and productive.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communication Teams on marketing campaigns to drive attendance, branding & messaging requirements at all canfitpro events
  • Manage schedule of on-site support at events by assigning roles, communicating and lead onsite execution
  • Manage the event evaluation process and prepare post-event analysis that can be distributed to staff and other stakeholders in order to review and improve future events
  • Seek out, provide guidance and implement new strategies and techniques for improving the quality of canfitpro events, and the attendee experience

Do you have what it takes?
