Continuing the Conversation on Mental Health: Supporting Ourselves and the Men in Our Lives
While May is Mental Health Awareness Month in Canada, the conversation must continue year-round. At canfitpro, we’re committed to building a culture where mental health is openly acknowledged and supported. Just as we prioritize physical fitness, we must also care for our mental and emotional well-being.
This June, we draw attention to a new and important date: Men’s Mental Health Day on June 13, 2025. This observance highlights the unique mental health challenges that men face and encourages us to support the men in our lives—friends, family, clients, and colleagues—through connection, listening, and care.

Understanding the difference between mental health and mental illness is essential. Everyone experiences stress or tough days, but mental illnesses are medical conditions that require care—and they are treatable. Healthy routines like movement, nature time, and community connection help improve mental well-being for everyone.
As fitness professionals and business leaders, we must lead by example. Prioritizing self-care isn’t selfish—it’s a leadership strength. And one of the most effective, often overlooked, mental health strategies is connection.
Connection fosters confidence. Community builds resilience. Networking with peers, showing up for events, or engaging in meaningful conversation can reduce isolation and remind us that we’re not alone. These interactions not only support our mental health but help us lead others with greater impact.
Encourage your teams and clients to take MO’ments to move, breathe, and reset. Even small actions—a kind word, a 2-minute movement break, or checking in with someone—can have lasting impact.
Let’s commit to making mental health part of the everyday conversation—not just in May or June, but all year long. When we show up for ourselves and each other, we create stronger, healthier communities.
