Introducing Women Who Influence and the Sharon Mann Inspiration Award & Scholarship, with Maureen (Mo) Hagan, creator of Women Who Influence

A Message from Maureen (Mo) Hagan, canfitpro COO & creator of canfitpro’s Women Who Influence

Maureen (Mo) Hagan is a global fitness ambassador and has been recognized for her work in fitness that spans over three decades. She has received numerous awards for her leadership and influence for women through the health and fitness industry worldwide including Canada’s Top 10 Power Women and Top 100 Health Leader. Mo is an award-winning fitness instructor, a number one best-selling author, editorial advisor for OptiMYz magazine and on the Board of Directors for Prescription to Get Active Canada.

canfitpro Women Who Influence was created to celebrate women in the fitness industry. In particular, those who leadHER-self and influence others to rise with them. This event was also created to give women a platform from which to speak out, share their story and encourage other women to pursue next level leadHERship opportunities. This is an annual one-day education experience and luncheon that takes place alongside canfitpro’s Global Conference & Tradeshow every August.

Having been blessed to have many extraordinary female role-models in her life, personally and professionally, Mo felt it was her duty and responsibility to provide a path for other women to receive the same opportunities for mentorship and leadHERship. This inspired her to form Women Who Influence in 2013.  Her passion for supporting women worldwide on their journey to becoming future-ready leaders and influencers has been unwavering.  Both Mo and canfitpro believe that Women Who Influence is needed now more than ever, so that future generations of women leadHER’s can grow to appreciate the inspiration, strength and opportunities that come from surrounding oneself with women who are travelling similar journeys.

The power of her story is at the heart of this event. When Mo reflects on the many stories of the amazing women she has been blessed to know and work with during her career, there is one woman that comes to mind for her who truly embodies everything that “Women Who Influence” represents— this woman is the late Sharon Mann. Sharon was a fitness icon, inspiring instructor and presenter, a trainer of trainers, and a fitness entrepreneur who worked in every facet of the fitness industry during her illustrious 30+ year career. Women Who Influence celebrated Sharon Mann in 2019 at the 6th Annual Women Who Influence event, presenting Sharon with the “Women Who Influence INSPIRATION” award. Sadly, ten months later Sharon passed away after a five-year battle with cancer.

At the 7th Annual Women Who Influence online event in August of 2021, canfitpro declared the award given to Sharon in 2019 the “Women Who Influence Sharon Mann INSPIRATION Award & Scholarship”.  Beginning in 2022, this new award and scholarship will recognize a woman within the fitness industry who exemplifies what Sharon Mann stood for, believed in, and lived — personal courage, growth mindset, influence, inspiration, and community impact.  This will help ensure Sharon’s legacy lives on in the minds and hearts of Sharon’s peers that knew and worked with her, the thousands of industry leaders and fitness professionals she trained at canfitpro events since 1993, and those who will learn about Sharon’s story and be inspired by it.  Sharon influenced Mo in so many ways including how to light up a room when you first walk in and by using your “super girl” power to inspire and build rapport.  Sharon’s superpower was undeniably her contagious smile.   Please take a moment to watch a glimpse of Sharon’s smile and inspiring story in this short highlight video. The music and lyrics “Supergirl” are both written and performed by Sharon’s husband Tim Campagna.
